Times Tables Rock Stars: Play

Good morning Year 2

Did you notice the TT Rockstar winners on the school Facebook page yesterday? I was so amazed to see, out of the WHOLE school, the pupil with the highest points is . . . our Grace. We are so proud of your achievement Grace, well done!

Today should be a hot sunny day so you may wish to take your learning tasks outside. If you do, please remember to put on some sun cream. You may wish to make a den or canopy to enjoy create some shade.

We would love to hear from more of you daily, please do blog a comment or email us today. Lets see if we can create a record for the most number of Year 2 children we have connected with today.

Your tasks for today:

1. Read a story of your choice for 5 minutes.

2. Phonics
Please write a sentence for each of these words: there, their, they're. Below is a BBC learning link to remind you about the meaning of these words, just in case you may need it.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zqhpk2p/articles/z3cxrwx

3. English
We are continuing on with our time machine work. Please write a description of where your time machine takes a character. Below are some questions to help develop your thoughts.
Who is your character? How does the character know about the time machine? Why did they decide to go inside it? How did the character make the machine work? Where or in what period of time did they travel to? What could they see, hear, smell and do there?

Challenge - can you include some ly, ment, less, ness or full suffixes?

ly suffix examples: quickly, brightly, bravely, sadly, sudddenly
ment suffix examples: excitement, enjoyment, amazement
less suffix examples: fearless, useless, endless, careless
ness suffix examples: quietness, darkness, happiness, closeness
ful suffix examples: cheerful, painful, helpful, fearful, thankful, stressful

4. Topic
Use BBC weather online to compare the weather we are enjoying in Bristol today to the weather Nigeria is experiencing today. Copy the weather symbol and temperature recording for both places.
Bristol - https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2654675
Abuja (capital city of Nigeria) - https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2352777

5. Maths
Time to move onto the next stage of reading the time. You can read o'clock and half past so now we are moving onto quarter past. Quarter past an hour is when the minute hand points at the number 3, the minute hand is quarter of the way around the clock.

This is explained really well on BBC Teach- how long is quarter of an hour? https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/maths-ks1-ks2-how-long-is-quarter-of-an-hour/zhgnvk7

Try making some quarter past times on your clock and write the times you create down in your home learning book

Daily Reflection
Well done Year 2, you rose to the challenge we set this morning! Today we created a new class record for the highest number of children keeping in contact with Mrs Triggs and Mrs Leaker through the blog comment box and emails. Lets see if we can continue to build on this, today we had contact with 12 children from our class.
