Tuesday 21st April - Home Learning

Free Half Past 10 Cliparts, Download Free Clip Art, Free Clip Art ...

Good morning Year 2,

Thank you for making the start of this new term so joyful. We have been encouraged by seeing some of your happy faces and fantastic work, whilst looking through the photos we received yesterday.

Here are your tasks for today:

1. Reading

2. Find out where in our world Nigeria is. See if you can point to it on a world map.
    Link to a world map - https://geology.com/world/world-map.shtml

3. Design and label your own time machine.

4. Watch ‘BBC Schools: Numbertime: Time-half past’ on YouTube.
     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIgzCOZNT6o

5. Use a stop watch to time what you can do in one minute e.g. how many star jumps/bunny hops/times you can write your name.

6. Half past is when the hour hand is half way between two numbers on a clock, and the minute hand is pointing down at the bottom of the clock (pointing to number 6).

On your clock: move the hour hand halfway between two numbers and point the minute hand down at the bottom. What time have you made?
            Half past _____________
Change the hour hand so it is half way between two different numbers. What time have you made now?

Our Star of the Day

Our Star of the Day is Grace. We choose Grace as she has been a fantastic independent researcher. Today she has been busy independently researching information about Nigeria. This led to her creating a Nigerian flag and a Nigerian headscarf called a gele.

Today's reflection
We knew you were a creative class and today this shone in all of your work from time machines and 1 minute challenges to items that remind us of Nigeria. Please carry on being creative as our world needs people like you who have inspiring ideas with artistic talents!

As for our Nigeria topic, you have come up with more fantastic and thought provoking questions. Clearly this is going to be an interesting topic. Today some of you shared these questions:

Is it a happy place?
Does Nigeria have a beach?
Was Nigeria ever in a war?
Are their ways different to ours?
Do they have money in Nigeria?
Is Nigeria a really hot place?
What was Nigeria like 300 years ago?

4.  Find out:

How many days are there in a year?

Today's Reflection
We have loved seeing you all do so well with your time work today! Tomorrow we are stepping up to read half past times on our clocks. Your rhymes have been fantastic too, those we have seen we have shared below as they made us chuckle - well done!
Please keep sending in your Nigeria questions, so far some of you have wondered:
Where is it?
Do Nigeria play football?
What do they wear?
What does the country produce?
Which animals can be seen there?
What language do they speak?

Friday 3rd April - Home Learning

Thanks God! its Friday. - Home | Facebook

Good morning Year 2,

It is our last day of the term and what a term it has been. We are so proud of the way everyone has adapted to home learning, which is a situation that has taken us all by surprise. Thank you for working so hard, not just us Year Twos but also your families too!

Thank you for wishing Lexi a happy 7th birthday yesterday, she certainly had a very special day!

Here are your tasks for today:
1. Imagine what it would be like if you were a pirate searching for treasure. Create a descriptive diary entry about ‘The day in the life of a pirate’.

2. Play ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf?’

3. Add a minute hand onto your clocks. Make sure the minute hand is longer than the hour hand. Keep the minute hand pointing to the top of your clock, as that will show it is o'clock.

4. What is the time on these analogue clocks? The hour hand is the shorter hand.

5. Can you solve these challenge time word problems?
The Easter bunny fills her basket at 6am. It will take her 4 hours to deliver the eggs. What time will the Easter Bunny finally have an empty basket?

Mrs Gray is been painting her bathroom. In one hour she is going to have a break, it is 10 o'clock now. What time is she going to have her break?

Mrs Leaker arrives at school at 8 o'clock. She left her house one hour before she needed to be at school. What time did Mrs Leaker leave her house?

Our Star of the Day
Our Star of the Day is Ella, because she really got into the role of her character today.

Today's Reflection
We have done it Year 2, yes! We have all made it to the very end of the term. Everyone has done so well persevering with home learning. Thank you for sending in your clock work photos, we are so encouraged to see you can now read o'clock times.

We shall look forward to hearing all about the fun Easter adventures you get up to.

Have a wonderful Easter holiday!

From
Mrs Triggs and Mrs Leaker

Happy birthday card template Royalty Free Vector Image

Good morning Year 2,

We hope you are all well and still trying your very best with our home learning tasks. There are only 2 days of home school left to get through, before we rest for the Easter break. At the moment we are busily planning a fun Easter homework project so you can continue some home learning over the holiday.

Today is Lexi's birthday, please make it extra special by writing her a birthday message in our blog comment area.

Here are your tasks for today:
1. Write about your favourite month of the year. Which month is it and why is this one your favourite?

2.  On your clock point your hour hand at a number.  Write down what time your clock is showing. Now read the next part carefully. What time was it 1 hour earlier? 2 hours earlier? 3 hours earlier?

3. Can you solve these challenge time word problems?
Mr Condon went shopping. He travelled on a bus which took 1 hour. If he arrived at the shop at  11 o'clock, what time did he leave his house to go shopping?
The carnival sets off from the school at 1pm and it's expected to last one hour. What time will it finish?
School starts at 8 o'clock. The lunch break starts 4 hours later. What time does lunch time begin?

4. Find out:
How many months are in a year?
Which month is your birthday in?
Which month are we in at the moment?

Our Star of the Day

Our Star of the Day is Logan. Well done Logan, you have been working incredibly hard all week and we are so proud of you!

Today's Reflection
You are all doing so well with reading the time and everyone seems to be successfully managing the time word problem challenges. Well done, please give yourselves a pat on the back. We have enjoyed seeing all of the other creative activities you have been up to today, from drawing and dancing to designing Brunel's hat and recreating his transport structures.
